2009

Today I had an excellent opportunity to be a guest on a Blog Talk Radio Show- Vehicle Vibes. Joining me on the show was Julia (Region Manager), Yvonne (Assoc. Buyer-Tires) and Meghan (Assoc. Buyer- Over the Counter items).  We had about 25 minutes to answer questions about Car Care, Maintenance, and how to winterize your vehicle.
Thanks Vehicle Vibes for having us on the show!  *Denise (SearsAuto Social Media Manager)

We want to hear about your Muscle or Classic car!

Oct

2009

Sears Auto Center in Sanford, FL hosted a Classic Car show with over 125 Cars and several hundred spectators. This Car Show was the 1st Annual American Muscle and Classic Car Show.  It was sponsored by the local Mustang Car Club.

This specific show also included a 60s tribute band and several vendors including a Hot Wheels sales booth and a portable vehicle test dyno.

This is the 3rd car show in Florida this year. They have also had a Classic Car Show in Daytona and a Tuner Car Show in Orange Park Florida.  Car Clubs seem to enjoy our locations because of the parking capabilities and the near by businesses. Family members can go to the mall or a movie while others enjoy the show.

Let's have our own car show on this blog! I want to hear all about your cool car and attach a picture too!!

Winter Car Preparation

Sep

24

2009

Take the time to prepare your car for winter and ensure your safety during challenging driving conditions. Let's start with the basic items you should have in your car:
  • Properly inflated spare tire, wheel wrench and tripod-type jack
  • Shovel, ice scraper/snow brush
  • Emergency Kit, will include jumper cables, first aid kit, reflective triangle, and other essential items.
  • Bag of salt or cat litter
  • Tool kit
  • Non-perishable, high-energy foods like unsalted canned nuts, dried fruits, and hard candy.

Next tasks:

  • Replace worn tires and brakes.  You may consider spending the money on winter/snow tires which are designed for winter conditions.  Winter tires are designed to excel in the colder temperature, slush, snow and ice experienced in many parts of the country.  Read attached link about winter tire myths- http://content.sears.com/ue/home/MX_Fall07_US_Winter_Myths.pdf
  • Service your battery.  Have it checked to be sure it is fully charged and battery terminals are clean.
  • Check your windshield to be there are no cracks and be sure it has the strength to withhold the winter elements such as heavy snow and slush.
  • Check windshield wipers to ensure visibility, I recommend winter blades. Also be sure to fill your reservoir with winter-formulated windshield solvent to prevent freezing.
  • Check oil regularly, recommended oil change every 3,000 miles.
  • Check all other fluid levels- antifreeze/coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering

Stop in your  local Sears Auto Center for winter tires, winter over the counter products, Emergency kits, DieHard Batteries & Battery service, maintenance services and so much more!  Sears Auto can winterize your vehicle for you! Open 7 days a week.

Heather's first car, what was yours?

Aug

2009

A co-worker recently bought a 2009 Chevy Impala. This brought back memories because my first car was a 1971 Chevy Impala.  My grandpa Frank had bought her new when I was only one year old.  Grandpa Frank passed away in 1982 and my parents stored it until I turned 16.  I was hoping for a cute (used) sports car for my birthday, so imagine my surprise when I was presented with the Impala. The “smurf-mobile” as we affectionately referred tot, was blue metallic with a white top (similar to the picture below). It had four doors and bench seats (which of course us teenagers enjoyed). She had a 350 cu in (5.7 L) turbo fire V8 engine that hauled A$$.  Mostly I used the Impala to take my siblings to school, to my job at the DQ and of course cruising on Friday and Saturday nights.  I remember taking her out on the country roads and getting her up to 175! She had power and sass and passed everything in sight- except gas stations.

Unfortunately my time with the smurf wasn’t long.  Freshman weren’t allowed to have cars on campus so when I went to college my sister inherited the beast.  Then each of my brothers got turns with her. My parents sold the smurf-mobile while I was in college. And that car is STILL on the road today.  She’s 38 years old and still runs great!  My Dad saw ole blue at the gas station last week and said that she’s looking a bit rusty from the spot where I hit a telephone pole with her, but other than that she’s still in great shape.  They just don’t make them like that anymore.  Whatever you do - don’t call her a clunker.  Feel free to share stories and post pix of your first car!

The Power of a Smile

Jul

17

2009

There is a lot going on in the workplace and in the world right now that could easily bring a person down, so let's talk about the power of a smile.  A smile or a laugh is contagious and can make a person feel good.  People who feel happy and are in good spirits are likely to be more productive. A person who feels good and has a positive attitude have increased oxygen, endorphins, and blood flow to the brain so in turn enables them to think more clearly and give increased energy.  Who doesn't like to be around someone who is laughing or smiling?  When you are surrounded by unhappy people or constant complaining, stress levels increase which mean productivity and creativity decrease.  If employees are enjoying their time at work, it will help them and others around them excel at their job. A happy and fun workplace is not only more productive, but will attract others and in the end attract more profits. Here are a couple tips on how to use the power of smile and spread the happiness in your workplace:

1) take a couple seconds to smile at each other in the hallway/building, have eye contact and acknowledge that you at least see the person and grant them with a friendly smile

2) when things go wrong, don't complain or spend time exerting negative energy.  Accept it, figure out what went wrong, move on and use as a learning in the future

3) be happy and think about all the positives that do exist in your life, focusing on negative will take up all of your energy

4) post fun facts, show your sense of humor, have team building activities and SMILE!
