Overview: How Sears Layaway Works

Layaway Fast Facts

• A Layaway contract is 8 weeks (except for fine jewelry which is 26 or 52 weeks)
• The Initiation Fee on all new Layaway contracts is $5*
• $15 or 20% down payment (whichever is greater) is collected when merchandise is put into
Layaway
• The Cancellation Fee is $10*
• Bi-weekly (every two weeks) payments are required
• Sears Layaway Program is available in Sears Full Line, Sears Hardware, Sears Grands,
Sears Essential Stores, Sears.com (not available in Automotive, Outlet Stores)
• Layaway merchandise will be returned to stock seven (7) days after a missed payment*

Unauthorized Merchandise

The following merchandise cannot be put in Layaway:
• Clearance Merchandise
• Home Appliances
• Automotive Merchandise
• Consumables
• Doorbusters/Early Open Specials
• Licensed Business (i.e. Optical, hearing aids, etc.)
• Gift Cards
• Beer and wine
• Flammable products and fuel
• Food and other perishable merchandise
• Live plants and horticulture
• Oil and chemical based products
• Photo Finishing and Portrait Studio pictures
• Chemicals
• Gas additives
• Magazines
• Paint thinner
• Pool chemicals
• Cellular phones and beepers

Layaway Transactions Rules

• You can use one or any combination of these acceptable payment options:
o In store: Cash, Check, Debit Card, Sears Cash Card, coupons or EBT Cash
(Note: EBT food stamps are not allowed)
o In store and online: credit card (Sears Card, Sears MasterCard, Visa,
MasterCard, Discover, American Express), Sears Gift Card, PayPal.
• New Layaway contracts cannot be created if you have other delinquent Layaways
contracts
• No partial takeouts or partial cancellations are permitted
• Except where prohibited by law, there will be no price adjustments after 30 days from the
date you start your layaway. Multiple price adjustments on the same items are not permitted.
Price adjustments are not allowed on clearance merchandise.
• Person initiating Layaway must be the same person finalizing Layaway. A picture ID is
required for all new Layaways, pickups and refunds.
• If you make a payment that is less than the minimum amount due; your payment due
date is not advanced to the next biweekly cycle. You are still obligated to fulfill the rest of
the current payment balance before the system will advance your next payment due date

Additional provisions for online layaway customers

• The merchandise must be available at the local store for pick up in order to be placed on
Layaway. Look for merchandise with the Layaway icon to determine eligibility
• Access layaway contract management functionality through www.sears.com/layaway or
click on your Open Orders in the Order Center portion of your Profile
• Contract cancellations are not allowed online
• Layaway contracts must be picked up in store where merchandise is being held within 25
days after the final payment is made
• Price adjustments cannot be facilitated online

Pajamas: my favorite fashion for my favorite time of day

Hi, my name is Cathy and I’m addicted to shopping for clothes!  Sometimes I feel like I need to attend a “shoppers addict” group because of how much I love to shop.  As seasons come and go, I keep my eye out for the latest trends and always buy new pieces to add to my collection.  Each day, I get out of bed and try on different combinations of items until I’m satisfied with my look.  I go on with my day of running to meetings, running errands, running around the house, or just plain running until I’m exhausted.  But I have to say, at the end of the day, there is nothing better then coming home, jumping into my comfy PJs and relaxing.

I recently realized that I love my pajamas and they are a staple to my fashion wardrobe!  Pajamas offer the opportunity for me to express a whole different fashion personality then the rest of my closet.  I have polka dots for when I’m in a happy mood, black for when I’m feeling somber, shorts for those summer days, and an oversized t-shirt for when I just care about comfort!  I even have some flannel PJs with dogs all over them for the fun of it!  Regardless of how professional I have to be for work that day or how nice I have to dress for an evening out, I can always come home and be a completely different person in my pajamas!  Here's an example of a pajama outfit I love:

 

  As I begin my holiday gift shopping, I also realized that I like buying pajamas as gifts.  My husband gets a new pair of flannel pants ever year, my niece will probably get one of the cute styles with monkeys (monkeys are so big this year), and I might have to get something fun for my sister-in-law too (since there are grown up styles with monkeys too).

Scooting towards the holidays

Few product categories have undergone as remarkable a makeover in the last few years as the venerable scooter, and no company has done more to drive this transformation than Razor.

Razor produced their first beautiful, machined aluminum scooters for children around nine years ago. Since then, they have continued to introduce innovation after innovation.

At Kmart we have always offered our customers a broad selection of the latest Razor scooters, and this year, for the first time, we have them also available at Sears.

Let's look at a few of the stars in the Razor team. First, a classic: the Razor A2, with a spring-less front wheel shock, and a deck and T-tube made from aircraft grade aluminum. Next to it, one of the hottest products of the season: the Razor E100. Equipped with an electric motor and a rechargeable battery, with a brief kick and a twist of the throttle it will zoom around at a brisk 10mph.

 

For kids really on the move, there is the Pocket Rocket in blue on the left, with a 250W electric motor and speeds up to a blistering 15mph. For the fashion conscious, there is the elegant Pocket Mod Sweat Pea on the right, able to travel up to 10 miles on a single charge.

Sears Wish Book. Need I say more?

 

It has been an exciting tradition in my family for years. My grandmother told me that the Wish Book came out in the 1930s. It went on a bit of a hiatus in the 1990s, but has been back for several years now. I remember as a kid looking through the Wish Book with my family. To me, it meant that the holidays were near!  Now, I am excited to be able to share this tradition with my own daughter. 

I brought the Wish Book home last week to get some gift giving ideas. (If you’ve seen some of my other posts, you know I am quite the planner!) My daughter grabbed the book from me, immediately! Our course, she flipped right to toys and circled everything she wanted for Christmas. She’s really good at telling me what she wants! The Barbie® Dream Townhouse and Pink Scooter made the top of her list.

 

Then, my husband picked up the book and pointed out some things to add to his list – a turkey fryer and a new TV for our room. (Great choices!)

 

I just can’t get over the fantastic selection of gift ideas and the great prices wrapped in to the new Sears Wish Book. And the best part is, the traditional hard copy version is complemented by an exciting, online interactive catalog, so shopping for those special people in your life is a breeze anyway you look at it.

It’s that time of year again! I don’t know about you, but everything seems to be moving faster these days. Trying to keep up with all the holiday planning gets more challenging every year. Whose house is Thanksgiving going to be at? Have we received the “long” wish lists from the kids and the grandchildren? What are the plans for Christmas Day and New Years Day? How can we fit in all the friends and family we want to see? And to top it off, work is as busy as ever. I’ve always been a procrastinator and every year I make a New Year’s resolution that next year I’m going to make my lists early and get all of my Christmas shopping completed early so I can balance all the obligations and enjoy the holidays with family and friends.

 

This year will be different for me because Hometown Stores has the solution. Saturday, November 14th: The last day to load your Christmas Club card with funds and still get the 3% bonus

Sunday, November 15th: Sears Friends and Family event from 6 to 9pm. The 3% bonus is calculated based on your balance on the card at 11:59pm on Nov 14, so you can spend your Christmas Club Card here without decreasing your bonus!!!
